Paula Modersohn Becker
Paula Modersohn-Becker (1876 - 1907) was a German painter and one of the most important representatives of early expressionism. She is recognized as the first known female painter to paint nude self-portraits. She was an important member of the artistic movement of modernism at the start of the twentieth century. Modersohn-Becker employed the same technique throughout her short career as a painter. She worked in tempera and oil with a limited range of pigments such as zinc white, cadmium yellow, viridian, and synthetic ultramarine.
